ARCHIVE

Here are some useful documents, connected to us as Secwepemc and First Nation people. As a culture that values the oral tradition of passing on knowledge and history, we must remember that there is more to an archive than just documents. In that sense, this quote from Sue McKemmish quantifies archive in more Indigenous manner.

“Continuum definitions of recordkeeping reference the archive in the very broadest sense, encompassing oral and written records, literature, landscape, dance, art, the built environment and artefacts insofar as they provide traces of social, cultural and organizational activity that evidence and memorialise individual and collective lives.” (McKemmish, 2005, p. 1)
